Paton Yam

Paton is currently a Lecturer in Psychology at De Montfort University. He received his DPhil in Experimental Psychology from University of Oxford. He was a LSE Fellow at London School of Economic and Political Science (2017-2018) and a Research Associate at University of Manchester (2018-2020).

His primary research is in the social and communicative functions of emotion and the application of this knowledge in improving group decision making, intergroup relations, and wellbeing. Recently, he brings in his music background to psychological research, exploring factors that contribute to music preferences and positive audience experience.

Paton has published in psychology journals and book chapters such as Plos One, Current Opinion in Behavioural Science, Journal of Behavioural Decision Making and Routledge Companion to Audiences and the Performing Arts.
